For Children and Adults
Orthodontics for Children
It’s best if we see your child by age 7 to advise if orthodontic treatment is required. It is the ideal time for children to be assessed because their first permanent molars and incisors have usually come in by that time. In addition, cross-bites, crowding and other problems can be evaluated. When orthodontic treatment is begun early, it’s possible for us to guide your child’s incoming permanent teeth. Early treatment can also regulate the width of the upper and lower dental arches, provide extra space for permanent teeth, avoid the need for permanent tooth extractions, reduce the likelihood of impacted permanent teeth, correct thumb-sucking in young children, and eliminate abnormal swallowing or speech problems. Because early treatment can simplify later treatment, it’s never too late for us to evaluate your child.
Orthodontics for Adults
Orthodontic treatment can be successful at any age. If you are a teenager or an adult, you will especially appreciate the benefits of a beautiful smile. Orthodontic care is important at any age, and we understand how age affects the appearance and function of your teeth. One of every five patients is over 21. Jaw surgery is more often required for older orthodontic patients because your jaws are not growing. As an adult, you may have problems with your teeth and/or the bone that supports your teeth. You may also require periodontal treatment before, during, and/or after orthodontic treatment. Whatever your condition is, we can help you.
