| I have always wanted braces since I was young but was
afraid of the pain and having to wear head gear like my friends in school. I
went through years of insecurities with my crooked teeth and having “bunny” teeth
and being called “Japanese Rabbit”. I got really good
at keeping my lips very close together when I spoke and covered my mouth
when I laughed. Having the “bunny” teeth became my trademark
and it was “cute”. Finally, I decided to get braces when I turned 31 years old. I was new to the city and I wanted to find the best orthodontist in BC. I talked to some friends and one friend of mine had just finished her treatment at Ocean Orthodontics. I booked an appointment and met Dr. Douglas for the first time. Dr. Douglas was wonderful and gave me several treatment options and explained to detail and the fact that he uses the newest technology in Orthodontics. I was amazed at how far the technology has come with braces. After I had my first appointment, I booked to have my braces. The team at Ocean Orthodontics are very professional and made every visit a comfortable one. Anytime I needed an adjustment or to clip a poking wire, I was always fit in right away. It was fascinating to watch my teeth straighten out by each passing month. I was also surprised to see how many people today decide to get braces at a later age. I was worried that I would be seeing a room full of young kids in the dental office each month but was surprised to see many people older than me getting braces. The days and months went by very quickly and I finally had my braces removed last year. Dr. Douglas even removed by braces in time for my Mom’s visit to BC. I was elated to see how Dr. Douglas and his team had transformed my teeth. Now, I practice how to smile with my teeth and tease my sisters that I am now the one with the straightest teeth in the family. We all have insecurities but this transformation more importantly is that oral health affects a person’s overall health. I want to thank Dr. Douglas and Orthodontics team for their kindness and dedication to making beautiful smiles. P.S. Thanks to Lou-Anne, I have a mold of my old teeth for the memories.
